What is a brain or spine scan like to experience?
You will be resting comfortably on a moveable bed, and your head will be gently cradled on a headrest, with your arms at your sides. The moveable table is then slowly moved into the device, which from within, emanates a magnetic field.
The 3 Tesla Siemens Skyra system we use produces a magnetic field much stronger than the lower field strength MRI systems used at most outpatient facilities, allowing for more accurate imaging.
You will be wearing headphones or can listen to music during your test. The treatment system produces a muffled thumping sound while it takes the images needed by the physician. The entire test will take half of the time that was required with older systems, many of which are currently in use in other imaging centers and hospitals in Jacksonville. A brain or spine scan on the average should take about 8-10 minutes. The results are sent directly to your physician, usually within a few hours of your scan.
